The Graduate Training Programme is conducted over a period of 12 to 24 months, depending upon the business division where the graduate trainee is placed. Overall, the programme is delivered in three distinct phases:
GTP Discovery: Introductory programme for all new graduate trainees within a specific geographic region, e.g. EMEA (Europe, Middle East & Africa). The course content includes basic banking and finance principles, personal development, self-management and general job objectives and expectations. Role and team-based training: Practical on-the-job training facilitated by the line manager who also acts as a mentor. Trainees understand their respective job roles and how it fits into the ‘bigger picture’ at UBS. Depending on the programme and location, formal training and preparation for professional qualifications are also included within the programme scope. Another important aspect in this phase of training is rotational placements across different business units within and outside the core division. GTP Gateway: A formal event signifying the end of the GTP and the way forward for graduate trainees as full-time employees.
Internships & Placements
The summer placement programme is conducted over ten weeks, beginning with a three-day induction course, followed by on-the-job and classroom-based training, performance assessments and various networking events.
UBS Insights (for first year students): Participants spend one week learning about the investment banking business and the day-to-day work activities across different departments. They also complete learning workshops and assessment exercises, which judge their suitability for a career in investment banking and their level of interest in working for UBS in particular.
Industrial placements for periods of six or 12 months are offered to students who have a gap year for industrial training as part of their degree studies. Placements are offered in the Risk, Global Asset Management, Derivatives and I.T. departments.
