Our structured graduate training programmes cover a broad range of areas to produce the future’s brightest accountants, tax advisors and investment managers. Each one is driven towards you becoming ACA, ATT, CTA or CISI qualified.
Graduate Programmes - Graduate Trainees joining departments across assurance & business services, business tax and private client tax services pursue one or more of the following qualifications: Associate Chartered Accountant (ACA), Association of Tax Technicians (ATT) and Chartered Tax Adviser (CTA). Our investment management trainees work towards the Investment Advice Diploma (IAD) and the Masters in Wealth Management (CISI).
Whichever area you choose, you’ll get first–class training and will develop the skills needed to become a trusted business adviser. In addition, placements in other departments mean greater insight into our business and the chance to expand your networks across the firm.
Internships & Placements
Summer Internships - You won't be left making the tea on an internship at Smith & Williamson. We want to show you how we work, and find out more about you. And, most importantly, your ability to make the kind of difference we're looking for in our future business advisers. That means getting involved with the type of work that our graduates carry out on a day-to-day basis. Hands-on experience in our tax and business services division can include everything from attending meetings with partners to client visits.
Our apprenticeship programme will allow you to earn a full-time salary, whilst being supported towards a professional qualification and gaining hands-on experience in a job. If you’re looking for an opportunity where you will be doing real work, for real clients with real responsibility from an early stage, look no further. We take higher apprentices into the following business areas:
- Assurance & Business Services
- Business Tax
- Private Client Tax Services
Whilst with us, you will work towards obtaining a professional qualification; either the Certificate of Finance and Business (CFAB) or Associate Tax Technician (ATT). Upon successful completion of the CFAB or ATT qualification and positive performance appraisals, you will have the opportunity to qualify as either a Chartered Accountant (ACA) or Chartered Tax Adviser (CTA). Both the ACA and CTA qualification are renowned as one of the most advanced learning and professional development programmes available.
Smith & Williamson will provide full support throughout your studies, including ongoing in-house training, appraisals, and mentoring.

What we look for:
Graduate trainee roles in Investment Management require a minimum B grade in GCSE Maths and English Language, 320 UCAS points in your top three A-levels (excluding General Studies) and a minimum 2:1 undergraduate degree.
Graduate trainee roles and summer internships in Assurance & Business Services, Business Tax and Forensics require a minimum B grade in GCSE Maths and English Language, 300 UCAS points in your top three A-levels (excluding General Studies) and a minimum 2:1 undergraduate degree.
