If you’re interested in heading into marketing in the finance industry then a business course with a specialist focus in marketing could be just the ticket!

What will I study on a marketing degree?

If you take on a degree with a marketing focus then you can expect to study this topics like these:

  • Marketing for managers
  • Brand management
  • Social marketing
  • Marketing strategy
  • Marketing and PR planning
  • Digital marketing
  • Global marketing strategies.

You’ll also study some core business studies or business management modules alongside your marketing modules, so you’ll be able to make the link between the two and develop your business skills and knowledge alongside your choice of marketing subjects.

Some of the courses on offer also include a placement year with a company, during which you’ll gain some hands on experience of marketing in practice. It’s also quite common that’ll you’ll have to undertake a research project/specialised marketing project in your final year.

Entry requirements…

A minimum of two A-levels; at least three is a prerequisite for a number of universities. Grade requirements can vary between AAA to C grades at A-level (or the equivalent) depending on the university.

International students will have to achieve a score (set by their prospective university) in an English language proficiency test as well to secure a place on their chosen course.

Where could a marketing degree take me?

A marketing degree will prepare you for graduate level marketing roles within various industries. Within the business and finance industry, you could join marketing teams for all kinds of organisations, from investment banks and retail bank marketing, to professional services firms, consultancies and specialist finance firms, working on things like brand management, advertising across various platforms and marketing strategy.

Marketing graduates could also flourish in areas such as HR in finance. Graduate schemes in finance areas like accountancy and tax are often open to graduates of any discipline, so these options will still be open to you if you take a marketing undergraduate course.
